Strawberry Shortcake (Helen) - serves about 4. 1 quart fresh strawberries 2/3 cup sugar 1/4 cup water 1 cup light cream or heavy milk 1 cake - basic Rinse berries and remove stems. Cut big berries in half. Pour sugar over berries in a bowl. Add water, and stir gently. Let stand for 4 hours, stirring once every hour. To serve, pour berries over pieces of cake in small bowls. Pour in cream or milk and let juices soak into the cake.
